15 questions to ask a 7-year-old
Seven-year-olds have favourites, collections and strong views. They’re thinking about who they are among other kids. Ask about the things they love, and they’ll tell you more than you asked.
- 1What are you obsessed with right now?
- 2What is the funniest thing that happened at school this week?
- 3What would you do if you could swap places with me for a day?
- 4Who is the funniest person you know?
- 5What is a job you’d never want to do?
- 6If you could be famous for something, what would it be?
- 7What makes a good teacher?
- 8What would your superpower be, and what would you use it for?
- 9What do you think you’ll remember about being seven?
- 10What is something you wish you could tell your younger self?
- 11If you wrote a rule for all grown-ups, what would it be?
- 12What do you and your friends argue about?
- 13What is the best present you’ve ever given someone?
- 14Where would you go in a time machine?
- 15What is something you changed your mind about?
How to get real answers
- One or two questions, not the whole list. It’s a conversation, not an interview.
- Ask side by side: in the car, at bath time, on a walk, at bedtime.
- Don’t correct the answer. You’re collecting how they think, not checking it.
- Write it down in their exact words, with their age. Ask the same question next year and compare.
cuote it
Keep what they answer, with their age on it.
Cuote keeps the funny things your kids say, and asks you a question like these on quiet evenings.
