15 questions to ask a 10-year-old
Ten is double digits, and they know it. Their answers get thoughtful, sometimes surprising. Treat the questions as conversations between two people with opinions, because that’s what they are now.
- 1What do you know now that you didn’t know at five?
- 2What is the best decision you made this year?
- 3If you could give your friends one piece of advice, what would it be?
- 4What do you think makes someone popular, and does it matter?
- 5What would you do with a whole day and no rules?
- 6What is something you believe that most people don’t?
- 7What does it mean to be a good person?
- 8What are you looking forward to about being a teenager?
- 9What are you not looking forward to?
- 10What would you want to be famous for, if anything?
- 11What is one thing you’d like to do with me this year?
- 12What is the hardest thing about being ten?
- 13Who is someone you admire who isn’t famous?
- 14What would you change about school if you could?
- 15What do you hope you never stop doing?
How to get real answers
- One or two questions, not the whole list. It’s a conversation, not an interview.
- Ask side by side: in the car, at bath time, on a walk, at bedtime.
- Don’t correct the answer. You’re collecting how they think, not checking it.
- Write it down in their exact words, with their age. Ask the same question next year and compare.
cuote it
Keep what they answer, with their age on it.
Cuote keeps the funny things your kids say, and asks you a question like these on quiet evenings.
