What is a cuote?

A cuote is a cute quote from a kid: the thing they said that you swore you’d remember. Here’s why the word exists, and how to cuote it.
A cuote is a cute quote from a kid. The line they said in the back of the car that made you laugh so hard you had to pull over. The question at bedtime you couldn’t answer. The word they get wrong in the best possible way.
“I don’t need a nap. The nap needs me.”
That’s a cuote.
Why it needed a word
Because there wasn’t one, and things without a name get lost. You don’t have a place for them, so they end up in a notes app between a shopping list and a wifi password, or in a text to your partner you’ll never find again, or nowhere.
Every parent says “I have to write that down.” Most of us don’t. By Friday the exact words are gone, and the exact words were the whole point.
How to use it
- As a noun: “That’s a cuote.”
- As a verb: “Cuote it before you forget.”
- As an instruction to your partner across the kitchen: “Cuote that.”
What makes a good one
It doesn’t have to be funny. The best cuotes are the ones that could only have come from that kid at that age: their logic, their grammar, their absolute confidence. Write it exactly as they said it. Don’t fix it.
Then add their name and how old they were. “Leo, 3” turns a sentence into a memory.
